What a weekend for tennis great Roger Federer. The Swiss legend beat Andy Roddick in an epic Wimbledon final to claim his 15th Grand Slam title – finally putting him past Pete Sampras and into first place on the all-time list.
“Across the pond,” the already-legendary Tiger Woods had a strong showing on the greens to win the AT&T National, his third tour win of the year. Most golf fans believe it’s just a matter of time before Woods sits atop the all-time wins list for both Majors and all-time tour victories.
There’s always something special about knowing you’re watching an “all-time great.” It’s even more surreal as a sports fan to see superstars share a winning tradition. Hockey fans in Edmonton know what I’m talking about – the Moose and the Great One spoiled Oilers fans for years! But it struck me as rare to see two accomplished athletes (Federer and Woods) in different sports share a winning connection. Check the graphic below to see what I mean.
On SIX different occasions, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods have shared a winning weekend. In fact, you could almost argue a Grand Slam win for Federer is nothing short of a rabbit’s foot for Tiger. We’ll have to wait and see if there’s a lucky seven in store for this unlikely tandem!
