On The Trail Again…

West Coast Trail - Summer 2010

You’d think we’d have learned our lesson by now. Yet despite the blisters, chafing and muscle spasms that accompany  70-100 km treks, my pals Tim, Brent, Mike and I continue to take on an ambitious hiking route once a summer in what’s turned out to be a pretty special tradition.

After Thursday’s show, we’re off to the Rocky Mountains again for this year’s adventure – the Sawback Range Circuit.

We’ll travel through some of the highest and wildest country between Banff and Lake Louise, much of it prime Grizzly bear habitat. The four of us gained a bit of experience through similar terrain last summer, hiking the Moose River Route around Mount Robson. I can only hope we’ll be able to replicate some of the magic we encountered on that journey amidst glaciers, Grizzlies and astounding alpine meadows.

We’ll travel via Johnston Creek, Badger Pass, Flint’s Park, Forty Mile Summit and Mystic Pass, covering nearly 75 km over four days. I’m already looking forward to sharing photos of the adventure with our Breakfast Television family! We’ll be back in Edmonton mid-next week (that’s the plan, anyway…).

Until then,
