I remember questioning his judgement from the get-go. How could Archie Andrews overlook Betty Cooper’s obvious “wife-worthy” traits in favour of being pushed around by Veronica Lodge time and time again? I know I wasn’t the only pre-teen who was baffled by Archie’s romantic instincts. Archie comics were the first real regular reading I embraced as a kid, along with millions of other dedicated comic fans around the world. Looking back, I think I gleaned more about dealing with the fairer sex by learning from Archie’s mistakes!
On Wednesday’s BT, Bridget “Veronica” Ryan and I (”Jughead” Jespersen) celebrated the engagement of Archie and Veronica (after 67 years of dating!) by dressing up as our favourite characters. We welcomed Archie collector Marc Desgagne into our studio (the guy owns 10,000 Archie comics!), worked through some tough Archie trivia, and asked you which character you related to most. What a blast from the past, hearing names like Mrs. Grundy, Professor Flutesnoot, Mr. Weatherbee and Dilton Doiley!
Even though our unofficial poll results around the Citytv newsroom show about 95% of Archie fans believe he should be forever-linked to the blonde over the brunette, we decided to let love rule and support the engagement anyway! In fact, I was so influenced by the good vibes surrounding Archie’s proposal I even SHARED the burger platter from our friends at Delux Burger Bar! Now THAT’S unexpected.

Nice attention to detail with the drumsticks in the pocket!
