It’s an honour to be one of the five or six “faces” of a show like Breakfast Television. That said, there are so many hugely important team members who viewers don’t see on camera each and every morning. They’re the ones who make sure our news stories are up-to-the-minute accurate, who ensure our technical bases are covered and who scrutinize and supplement the details integral to each and every segment on BT.
We made an impromptu decision on Monday’s show to start featuring our BT brothers and sisters, starting with the talented team in our control room. Our switcher, Dave Valentine, was happy to provide a demonstration of our “Eyes of Edmonton,” the cameras mounted on the roof of the Canadian Western Bank building on Jasper Avenue.
On Tuesday morning, we connected with our news writers and producers (including some insight on how a mother of three beautiful young ones juggles the responsibilities of a newsroom shift that starts at 3:30am!). Click here to meet Jason, Josephine and Alora.
Wednesday, we took our tour to the BT traffic and weather centre to see how information is gathered, dissected and presented on an up-to-the-minute basis every weekday morning. While we were up there, we couldn’t resist seeing how Stacey Brotzel’s green blazer would do in front of our green screen. Click here to check out the area where Michele and Carla work their magic.
On Thursday morning, we checked in with Greg, our early morning engineer. Greg’s our go-to guy when it comes to the technical side of things – our master troubleshooter, if you will. After a quick chat, Bridget and I continued on down the back hallway housing our Citytv servers to visit Shawn and Dawn, our talented editing twosome. Click here to check out Thursday’s tour (and decide for yourself – who of the two has the better workspace?).
We wrapped up our BT Behind the Scenes tour on Friday morning with a visit to our front security desk, Phil’s famous audio booth and VTR. Click on the video link below if you missed it. We hope this week’s series gave you some insight into the hugely important team members that keep Breakfast Television in top spot as Edmonton’s Favourite Morning Show!
See you bright and early!
