An upside down 2

Tradition!    You can’t deny tradition is a h-u-g-e part of hockey in Canada, not to mention Edmonton.    The banner above is a perfect example.    Can you tell that the 5 in the ‘85′ is an upside down 2?    When the banner was originally made, the manufacturer was out of 5’s … No problem -  Improvise!    Over time, those championship banners suffer the wear and tear — so they need to be replaced.    And since the original was made with an upside down 2, so was the replacement – TRADITION.    I learned this great story from Jessica McPhee – Manager, Corporate Communications – who took a group of us on a catwalk tour before the Oilers game the other night.

Another highlight of the tour was meeting the VOICE at Rexall.    Mark Lewis is the man you hear everytime the Oilers(& those other guys) score or take a penalty.
