What mysterious, beautiful creatures!  Murray gives us a bird’s eye view of two Saw-whet owls.  The photo on the left is an adult female, …but she is very tiny.  In fact, the hole in that box is only three inches.  She is also very talkative (as are a lot of Saw-whets).  Many people complain that Saw-whets keep them awake all night, what’s worse, the call sounds like a steel saw (hence the name). 

The second photo -the baby, is just starting to get his feathers so he can fly.  This little guy was banded and then returned to his nesting box.   As you can see, just as he’s getting his feathers he looks a lot different from the adult.
