High Voltage!
Zoltan is lightning fast with his camera – lucky for us! Check out how the entire cloud is illuminated by the lightning! Zoltan writes: “I had the pleasure of photographing a fantastic lightning storm between Morinville and Redwater.” He sent more pics, I included 2 of them below. Check out his website too: www.infocusimagery.com.
DID YOU KNOW? Here is a little Thunderstorm and LIGHTNING 101: The sun heats the surface of the earth and warms the air above it – forcing that warm air to rise. That rising air contains water vapor,…and as it goes up — it begins to cool, releases heat, and condenses into a cloud. The cloud grows and grows high into the sky where the temperature is below freezing. Some of the water vapor turns to ice and some of it turns into water droplets. Both have electrical charges. Ice particles usually have positive charges, and rain droplets usually have negative charges. When the charges build up enough, they are discharged in a bolt of lightning, which causes the sound waves we hear as thunder.
