Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron

I am always struck by the beauty of this bird, and how it has perfected its camoflage defense.    Simon was in Orlando’s Gatorland where the Great Blue Herons live and breed along the main lake in the marsh.    The heron keeps its neck in that “S” shape even when flying.

DID YOU KNOW?    Great Blue Herons are Canada’s most widespread heron, from the Maritimes to British Columbia.    They stand perfectly still in the water until a tasty morsel passes by.    When they see something — wham!    The heron lunges with its body and neck – usually swallowing in one gulp.    Like a lot of humans, most head south once water begins to freeze — flying to Mexico or Cuba … AGAIN, like a lot of humans.

AND SO ‘HUMAN” – IF YOU TOOK ANY PHOTOS WHEN YOU TOOK THAT TRIP:  DURING TAKE OFF – IN FLIGHT – OR DESTINATION,….WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM.    UPLOAD YOURS TODAY!
