25 million people visit Central Park each year.    Make that “26″ million, thanks to Murray from Ponoka!    Central Park-in the heart of Manhattan-is 341 hectares OR more than one square mile.    It was designed wayyyy back in the 1850’s – virtually every tree, every flower, every lake and pond, planned and planted by man.

Murray reminds us that in August, high and damaging winds of 120k/hr destroyed a lot of the old and irreplaceable trees.     But most of the  American Elm, Oak, Dogwood, Beech, Cherry, and Paulownia are still fighting for survival.    & no surprise that our local birdman noticed the Robins, Doves, and rarely seen Thrushes.     And Wow.   As we see below, it’s not often a first trip to New York warrants a street naming in your honour!!!

DID YOU KNOW?   In 2006, a Christmas cover story in New York Magazine cited one of the “Reasons to Love New York” as:  ”Because We Wouldn’t Trade a Patch of Grass for $528,783,552,000.”     So does that mean the estimated worth of all the land in Central Park is nearly 529 billion dollars …. ?
