Hummer hovers

Hummer hovers

Tammy has that touch.    Not only does she have a steady hand but tells us that this hummingbird posed for her.    This little guy is in mid hover, and we are looking at a freeze frame where his wings are flapping up to 50 times a second.    And they are fast flyers, too!    Hummingbirds can fly at speeds of 54 km/hr.

DID YOU KNOW?    Hummingbirds are the only group of birds able to fly backwards.    They drink nectar, the sweet liquid inside certain flowers, and they like their drinks strong!    They reject flower types that produce nectar that is less than 10% sugar.    Because nectar is a poor source of nutrients, hummingbirds get their proteins, vitamins and minerals from insects and spiders.

REACH FOR THAT CAMERA SLOWWLY SO AS NOT TO DISTURB THE WILDLIFE.    SNAP AND SEND YOUR PICTURE TODAY.    OPERATORS, AND WE OF THE FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION ARE STANDING BY!
