This is Alessandro Simpatico…he is one of the honorary spokespersons for the Kidney Foundation’s GIve the Gift of Life Fun Run and Walk and he is my idol. Alessandro is 9 years old and he was born with kidney disease. But don’t feel sorry for this incredible vivacious hilarious kid who will one day need a kidney transplant, no sir. Being on peritoneal dialysis might bog one down with the changing of the catheter some 5 or 6 times a day, but not Alessandro. He’s too busy running around motivating his fellow grade 4 students to get involved with the Fun Run & Walk, creating awareness about organ donation, loving football and soccer and has one of the largest ‘webkinz’ collections i’ve ever seen! To see him live this exceptional life given the obstacles he overcomes is, in itself, inspirational. But today he really knocked it out of the ballpark! TEAM ALESSANDRO (as led by Alessandro himself) was 42 people strong today and raised over $7500 for the Kidney Foundation! FANTASTIC!!!
I have been so fortunate to have met Alessandro and his mom and dad and little brother, Marko (POLO!!!) and now call them ‘Friend!’ What a great family, and what a great cause. Today’s run had the largest number of runners to date, with over 300 folks registered to make a difference and when the totals came in at over 46,000 from the run/walk alone…what a SUCCESSFUL day!!
The best part of the day is that you’ll notice in the picture I am wearing a blue hat…that’s because today, I joined TEAM ALESSANDRO in 2010! I can’t wait!!

We can’t wait for the 2010 Fun Run and Walk too!!!!
