Bring back memories?

Bring back memories?

Marilyn has this Oh Canada Close-Up!    ”I took this photo on my way home from work one wintry Wednesday afternoon.   I made sure I got the close up the snowflake on my red Vancouver Olympics Mitten“.

DID YOU KNOW?     For the first time, Canada won gold when hosting the Olympic Games.    That didn’t happen at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal or the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.    Our Canadian team finished first overall in gold medal wins and became the first host nation—since Norway in 1952—to lead the gold medal count, with 14 gold medals.
Here’s the full count in case you forgot:  14 GOLD  7 SILVER  5 BRONZE  = 26
And it was Alexander Bilodeau who struck gold first!    He made history in men’s moguls – the first Canadian ever to win Olympic gold on home soil.    Those red mittens were/still are extremely popular.    By spending $10.00 you were supporting the Olympic athletes in the “Own the Podium” project.    If you are still looking for some mittens, maybe you can find a pair here:  http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=2010+olympic+mittens&_armrs=1&_dmd=2&_from=&_ipg=

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

A symbol of days gone by.    We thank Don for noticing this humble home:  “This old pioneer home made of logs was a place of rest after a long arduous day of clearing land in the Andrew farm country.   Check out some of the decorative detail that made this home appealing:  the scalloped fascia, the eave cornice and the exterior plastering … features that are comparable to this day and age”.

DID YOU KNOW?    In 1900 Alberta was a district of the North-West Territories and the premier of the territories was Sir Frederick Haultain.    He wanted to create one very large province combining Alberta and Saskatchewan and suggested it be called Buffalo.    But the prime minister at that time Sir Wilfrid Laurier, did not want too much power in one province (which might rival Quebec and Ontario) so he decided on a two-province plan.    Alberta and Saskatchewan each became a province on September 1, 1905.    Alberta’s first premier was Alexander Rutherford.

Reserve now!

Reserve now!

The word nestled comes to mind.    RJ shows his creative side while in the Rocky Mountains.    The Banff Springs Hotel is but a tiny dot on the landscape – nestled in the Bow Valley.    “I took the photo from the other side of the hotel.   I thought it looked a lot better without all the cars and people.   From that angle it kind of looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere“.

DID YOU KNOW?    The Canadian Pacific Railway built the Banff Springs Hotel between 1887 and 1888.    And then in 1911, a brand new hotel was built in stages to replace the 1888 structure.

GET OUT THERE AND GET CREATIVE AND THEN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR TWO FOR ONE SPECIAL!    YOUR PHOTO WILL AIR ON BT AND BE FEATURED ON THIS VERY BLOG.    OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY.

Lake Isle - I'll be back!

Lake Isle - I'll be back!

Sigh.    LaVerne at Lake Isle - west of Edmonton and north of Gainford.    She has done an incredible job of translating such a wonderful moment at sunrise:  ”I was glad to have captured the clouds as well as the reflections in the water.   This island at Lake Isle seems to be very photgenic, it is in a lot of the pictures I take while we are out enjoying nature.”    The lake has been known by several names over the years:  Isle Lake, Lac des Isles and Lac des Islets.    Today it is simply known as Lake Isle.

DID YOU KNOW?    In 1870, the Hudson’s Bay Company built a trading post beside Lac Ste. Anne, about 14 km northeast of Isle Lake.    When lands became available for agriculture, the region around Isle Lake was settled in 1905.    Fast forward to 1942 when the first subdivision was registered at Gainford, and within 15 years the land around the pretty lake itself was developed.

SHARE YOUR MOMENT OF ZEN WITH US AND WE WILL SHARE IT WITH BT VIEWERS AND READERS OF THIS BLOG.    DON’T DELAY, TAKE YOUR PICTURE TODAY!

You calling ME Nuts?

You calling ME Nuts?

I wonder how George was able to get this Red Squirrel to pose?    You can almost ‘feel’ him twitching – ready to bolt.    This little guy caught George’s eye while in Jasper National Park:  “I took the photo on the walkway beyond the Grand old Aquacourt at Miette Hot Springs“.

DID YOU KNOW?    Red Squirrels are always on the go.    Their main goal is food:  finding it, moving it, storing it, hiding it, with the end result eating it.    In the fall they gather thousands of fir tree cones as well as mushrooms and fruit – and stash all that in trees.    And just before the big freeze up, they fill an old bird’s nest or tree cavity with shredded bark and other soft insulating materials so they have a warm comfy bed.
