Is that Jasper the Bear?

Here’s a great reason to invest in a zoom lens.    As soon as you hit Jasper National Park be on the lookout .. for a number of reasons!    You don’t want to miss seeing wildlife, but you must respect all animals at a distance.    Bernd and his daughter agree:  “My daughter Julia took this picture in the summer at Jasper National Park“.

DID YOU KNOW?    It’s common to see black bears in forested areas and along roadsides – even in campgrounds.    Their claws are short and curved.    That’s why they are agile – and wayyy better than you – at climbing trees.    Almost all of what they eat (77%) is grasses, roots, and berries, -they love love love dandelions and buffalo berries.    Never feed bears or leave food out to attract them.    You may have heard this heartbreaking phrase:  “A fed bear is a dead bear”.

DID YOU KNOW?      Lethbridge enjoys more than 320 days of sunshine per year.    Wayyy back in 1874 it was discovered that the area was rich with coal.    In 1882 a man named Nicholas Sheran opened the mining company North Western Coal and Navigation Company.    The president of that company was William Lethbridge … he must have done a good job since the city is named in his honour.

SO much personality with these Bald Eagles!    Hugo shares his experience:  “It was a beautiful day in Penhold, Alberta.    In that very tree I have seen more than a dozen eagles and their eaglets.    I took the photo at about 11 am - it was just a little windy”.

It’s another season of The Bachelorette and another chance at love for Ashley Hebert.

The former contestant on The Bachelor sifted through 25 suitors on the series premiere of The Bachelorette Monday night on Citytv at 9pm. Scattered amongst the fellas: a beligerent drunk, a cut-to-the-chase kisser, a masked man and a Northern Albertan (if you blinked you may have missed him). Over the next number of weeks, Ashley H will embark on group dates, a little one-on-one magic, hometown dates and ultimately a decision between two finalists of her choosing.

Of course, there’s a lot of ground to cover between now and then. We welcomed back our wildly-popular BT Bachelorette Panel Tuesday morning at 8:10 to break down some of the more, ummm, “memorable” first impressions and make a few predictions moving forward. Click on the video link below for that.
