Burned by the Bachelorette?

ChrisAshley

I’ll admit it. I thought Chris Malhomme totally dropped the ball. The Edmontonian had the hopes of an entire nation on his shoulders as the only Canadian contestant on this season of The Bachelorette (Mondays at 9pm on Citytv) but didn’t even make it past the first round of cuts. I thought his introduction to Ashley was rushed and impersonal. I thought he failed to assert himself in the mansion. I thought, frankly, he barely put forth an effort and deserved to be sent home early.

Then I met Chris Malhomme in the BT studio. The guy is over the top (you’ll see what I mean in the video clip below). He dished on all the dirt (mostly off-camera, as he’s still bound by a bulletproof non-disclosure agreement) and I quickly bought into his claim he was a victim of creative editing. In other words, according to Chris himself, he was “all over the place in the mansion. Probably the most outgoing guy there. Doing (his) own interviews with (his) own camera crew and everything.” Then why was he sent packing so soon, I wondered? Check out his answer in our interview (below).

Warner Brothers executives must have recognized my enthusiasm in speaking with Chris, as he was contacted on his cell phone following our 7:40am segment (and just before he was set to join our BT Bachelorette panel at 8:10). The gag order was issued and Chris was sent packing. Too bad, really. If you’re a regular viewer of our panel, I’m sure you were as excited as I was to see Chris and Trevor Schmidt compete for camera time.

Chris or no Chris, our panelists had plenty to talk about this Tuesday morning. What is up with the mask guy? Why on earth would you shop for rings and wedding cake on a first date? And what’s with all the making out this early in the search for a spouse?

Looks like we’ll have plenty to talk about next week as well. Bentley, this season’s version of Wes (formerly The Most Hated Man in America), promises to “make Ashley cry” after “playing everybody.” I can only imagine the heartache that will ensue in what could be The Most Dramatic Season Ever.

Don’t forget, you’ve still got time to sign up for the Citytv Bachelorette fantasy pool! Until next week…

Maginficent Mt. Robson

Maginficent Mt. Robson

Awe inspring.  The magnificance that is Mount Robson completely filled Don’s view as he drove toward it – east on The Yellowhead Highway:  “Taken through the windshield at highway speed while on our way back through Jasper.   The Canadian Rockies play a significant role in the weather for Alberta; at May Long the Rockies are still loaded with snow.   Here is a quote I found:  ”On every side the snowy heads of mighty hills crowded round, whilst, immediately behind us, a giant among giants, and immeasurably supreme, rose Robson’s Peak” ( Milton and Cheadle, 1865 ).    Beautiful!

DID YOU KNOW?    Mount Robson is the highest point in the Canadian Rockies and the 2nd highest in BC.    It is 12, 972 feet high (a little more than 2 miles) -  that’s about 10 Empire State Buildings, or 11 Eiffel Towers, or 79 Statue of Liberties.    Mount Robson was likely named after Colin Robertson, who worked for both the North West Company and the Hudson’s Bay Company at various times in the early 19th century.

Grade 4 girl threatens my composure

posted on May 30th, 2011 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

I love reading the news.  I hope I give each story it’s just due and respect.  But my run in with grade 4 student Fiona was a first for me.   Her comments and especially her last statement in the story about education cuts is one I will never forget.  Watch the story. Watch me lose it. Watch me struggle for composure for the next 2 stories.   Politicians take note…Fiona got me…and she may get you too.  Ha Ha.

Honk if you can see us!

Honk if you can see us!

Lauri  and her husband Terry are early risers (maybe the honking wakes them up).    They live north of Edmonton city limits and because of the low lying areas on their land – fog is quite common.    “We go out to visit the horses each morning before work, and for the last three years in the spring, have had two geese that hang out in the hayfield - this year we have 4.   Terry always keeps a camera on him and we’ve been fortunate to see so much wildlife out here”.

DID YOU KNOW?   Fog is cloud that has formed on the ground.    There are 4 main types of fog:  radiation fog, advection fog, upslope fog, and evaporation fog.    It looks like Lauri and Terry are experiencing Radiation Fog.    Overnight, the ground cools.    The air above the ground also cools.    This can bring the air down below its dew point, causing water vapor to condense around the dust and other particulates in the atmosphere, creating fog.

Music Q&A Sean Kingston

Singer Sean Kingston was inured Sunday in a jet ski accident.

He was reportedly rushed to a Miami hospital in critical condition.

The watercraft apparently crashed when it went under a small bridge injuring the singer and a female passenger.

Officials are investigating, but at this point alcohol is not believed to have played a factor.

Orange you glad you stopped by?

Orange you glad you stopped by?

Before she tackles the morning traffic, Marilyn takes time for … this!    & I for one – am glad to be included in her kodak moment.    Her backyard was bathed in orange – from a pale pastel to a brighter shade with little brush strokes of yellow.    The fir trees in silhouette point to the morning stratus clouds and the little bits of blue.

DID YOU KNOW?    The scientific definition of Sunrise is:  “The instant when the upper edge of the Sun appears above the horizon in the east.    Sunrise should not be confused with dawn, which is when the sky begins to lighten ’before’ the sun actually appears.    Dawn brings an end to twilight.
