Waterfall-Wow

Waterfall Wow-factor

This was just a few steps from Sara’s campsite at Columbia Icefield Campground.    She writes:  “The waterfall was only about 20 feet from my campsite.  It’s so beautiful there but freezing at night eventhough it was end of June.  I would love to go back, but I will bring many layers  =)”.    Good advice for the rest of us,…thanks Sara!

We had a great time on our Halloween show.  Here’s a few of the costumes.

Ryan as Super Mario

Here was Michelle…she stopped by the studios before she went to her Grandma’s house.

Michele as Little Red Riding Hood

This was my favorite costume…Carla Turner was Snooki from Jersey Shore.  She played it up huge…eating pickles, applying her lipgloss and talking about ’smoosh’ed cars.

I am a scaredy cat. Plain and simple. Sometimes I’m still scared of the dark.

So snaking my way through haunted house after haunted house at “Screamfest” was an adrenaline-boosting, heart-pumping, scream-inducing evening- to say the least.

(Don’t miss my journey through two at 6:55 AM and 8:10 AM on Friday’s Breakfast Television.)

There are haunted houses, mazes, entertainers, and the one I didn’t dare participate in: “The Last Ride”. (Think being locked in a coffin.)

If you want to check it out for yourself this Halloween weekend, it’s on Friday, October 29th – Sunday, October 31st at the Edmonton Expo Centre from 6 PM until midnight.

Check out http://www.screamfest.ca/ or just show up, if you dare!

WHAT MEGAN DID TO GET THIS GUY TO PLAY BALL – BELOW
Hip hopin' Blue jay

Hip hopin' Blue jay

The Blue Jay is one of those birds that is always a treat to see.    It seems they are a cheeky bird with an air of confidence and definite good looks.    Love that tuft of blue hair!    We are grateful to Megan for such a great photo – this Blue Jay did not want to play ball.    Megan writes:  ”I had been waiting to get a shot of him for a few months and finally had my chance!  Everytime I would move in the house, he would see me and fly away.  Finally!”    Your persistance is appreciated, Megan.

DID YOU KNOW?    The Blue Jay’s crest is a little tuft of feathers, which the bird can raise if agitated or hostile.    If it is afraid of something, its crest rises and shakes, but when calm & relaxed the crest is not so noticeable.    The Blue Jay is the provincial bird of Prince Edward Island and the state bird of the State of New York – and the name of a pretty awesome baseball team.

BE A TEAM PLAYER !    WE OF THE FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION NEED YOU.    AS SOON AS YOU UPLOAD YOUR PHOTO ON OUR MAIN WEBPAGE, WATCH FOR IT ON BT AND ON THIS WORLD FAMOUS BLOG.

BTStache

It’s a staggering number. One in six Canadian men will encounter prostate cancer in his lifetime. One in six.

I look around the dressing room at my men’s league hockey games and realize statistically-speaking, that’s three of my teammates. It’s three or four of us guys that work together here at Breakfast Television…or at least one of the six guys that stood up for me as groomsmen at our wedding.

Prostate cancer can be an uncomfortable thing to talk about. Many of us guys don’t like to think about the potentially-unpleasant annual exam we’re supposed to have once we turn 40. That’s why Movember, the month (formerly known as November) set aside for moustache growing and prostate cancer fundraising, is so important. Not only are millions of dollars raised to fund research and treatment of prostate cancer – we’re also sporting marvelous moustaches to raise awareness of the importance of annual exams. The reality is, prostate cancer is a highly-treatable disease when detected early. I’ve seen it. My uncle Robyn beat prostate cancer in his 40’s thanks to early detection and treatment.

We’re big backers of Movember at Breakfast Television. Through the month we’ll bring you Movember Mondays. We’ll learn more about advancements being made in research and treatment, stories of triumph over prostate cancer or in some cases lives being changed due to a loved on succombing to the disease. If you missed our big Movember 1st kickoff on BT, click here to view the highlights (including Movember founder Adam Garone live in studio).

We’re also bringing you our annual Movember prize pack. This year, it includes a custom Movember snowboard, two nights at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (including an hour massage and men’s facial at the brand new $6.7M spa), lift tickets to Marmot Basin, a pair of men’s or women’s sunglasses of your choice from Women With Vision Opticians, an autographed Glenn Anderson Hockey Hall of Fame photo montage and autographed Oilers cap, a team-autographed Edmonton Oil Kings jersey, a Mo Sista collection and make-up consultation from Lady Venom Cosmetics, a Chef’s Dinner for four with wine pairings at Lux Steakhouse, $25o to spend at Identity Clothing, two annual memberships with My Black Card, $250 to spend at Crimson Empire Tattoo and a whole lot more. Every $25 donation you make (by clicking HERE) will earn you one ticket for our random draw. Every $100 donation earns you five tickets. All of the proceeds will go to Prostate Cancer Canada. We’ll announce our winner at the end of Movember.

We’d also love for you to join our official Breakfast Television Edmonton Movember team. Click here to join the movement to change the face of men’s health!

MICK, CANDY AND THE NWTs — SEE HOW BIG THE FISH ARE – BELOW

Lynx Lake NWT

Lynx Lake NWT

One of the many reasons I love our Fresh Air Photos — I always learn something!    Mick and Candy share with us their trip to Lynx Lake in the Northwest Territories and introduce us to an ESKER.    An esker is a long winding ridge with steep sided edges formed during the ice age.    How cool (pun intended) is that!?    It also looks like Mick and Candy threw the line in once or twice.    Check out that big fat healthy 22 pound Lake Trout!

Tipping the SCALES!!

Tipping the SCALES!!

Here’s Mick:  “We released the fish, we would only keep a  fish if we wanted it for supper that day and this guy was too big for that.   Fish like this would be prime breeding stock so we left him/her there to do what he/she’s good at and to grow even bigger”.

DID YOU KNOW?    Canada’s Northwest Territories at 1,171,918 square kilometers - is as big as Alberta and Saskatchewan combined, but has just 42,940 inhabitants.    Tourism boasts that in the dark winter months you can watch the world’s best northern lights dance ~~ and be there in the summer when the sun never sets.

WE WILL BE BOASTING ABOUT YOU AFTER YOU SEND US YOUR FRESH AIR PHOTO.    DON’T WAIT – OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY!

10 26 Gaga Biebs

Move over Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga has just set a new record for YouTube.

The queen of controversial fashion has racked up more than one billion views on the video sharing website. But that figure is the overall views of Gaga.

The Biebs still holds the record for the most views on a single video with over $350,000,000 for the single “Baby”.

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber is coming out with his own fragrance line. But it won’t come bottled like most celebrity fragrances.

The unisex scent will reportedly be infused into dog tags and wristbands.

If you’re itching to wear the Biebs’ signature scent, it’ll hit stores in December just in time for Christmas.

10 26 Madonna
From fragrance to fitness, Madonna is taking her love of working out to the next level.

The fitness buff has announced that she’s opening her own line of gyms dubbed “Hard Candy”.

The first gym, a 30,000 square foot state of the art centre, is to open in Mexico City next month and an additional ten are already in the planning stages in Russia, Europe, Asia, Brazil, and Argentina.

JERRY SHARES HIS LOCALE “AND” HIS BUDDY – BELOW

Awesome Alberta

Awesome Alberta

A warm Alberta evening, the water quietly lapping on shore .. perhaps a bird heard off in the distance.    Jerry was at Lake Newell on October 21st when the temperature hit 21 degrees:  “As the sun was setting at Kinbrook Provincial Park.  The lake is an oasis in the midst of Alberta Prairie ~ beauty!”    Agreed Jerry.    Honorable mention goes to Patch the Brittany Spaniel pointing dog.     He will be 3 in November and according to one proud papa is a game bird finding phenom who lives to find birds at top speed~then retrieve.

Patch "born ready"

Patch "born ready"

DID YOU KNOW?    Lake Newell is one of Alberta’s largest reservoirs.    Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is located on the eastern side of the lake.    When the reservoir was completed in 1914, it was named for T.H. Newell, an American irrigation expert who had bought half a township of land in the area.

What you missed on the weekend…

Celine Honored
Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil welcomed twin boys over the weekend.

The 42-year-old conceived the babies after six rounds of in vitro fertilization.

They were born prematurely, but Dion’s doctor says the boys, whose names have not been announced, are both healthy.

The twins join their 9-year-old brother Rene-Charles.

10 25 Matt and wife

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana are celebrating the birth of their daughter.

Stella Zavala Damon was born Wednesday in New York.

Damon and Luciana wed in 2005  and have two children together.

Luciana also has a daughter, Alexia, from a previous marriage.

10 25 Russell Katy

Actor/comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry said “I do” in India over the weekend.

They tied the knot Saturday at a luxury resort within a Rajasthani tiger reserve.

It reportedly featured:

- A Bollywood banquet with drummers, dancers, fire eaters, and snake charmers.

-  Camels, horses and a baby elephant for Brand’s arrival, a tiger named Machli as a gift for his bride, and another that got into the wedding party to the horror of security staff.

- Celebrity attendees including P Diddy, David Walliams and Jonathan Ross.

- A fortune-telling parrot, who informed the newlyweds they would have a long marriage (which is good news because Russell Brand says they did NOT sign a prenup), children and successful careers.

10 25 Randy Quaid

Okay joyful announcements aside, this bit of entertainment news feels like it should be straight out of a horror film.

Randy Quaid (you know- Cousin Eddie from the “Vacation” movies) and wife Evi fear they’re on a Hollywood death list.

The couple face burglary charges in California for allegedly not paying a $10,000 hotel bill and squatting in and vandalizing a guest house they say they once owned.

They failed repeatedly to show up in a Santa Barbara courtroom and were arrested last week in Vancouver.

They’re now seeking asylum in Canada “from the murderous people in Hollywood murdering movie stars for ad sales”.

Under questioning, Evi told authorities she believes actors David Carradine and Heath Ledger — both former co-stars of Randy — didn’t die as reported, but in fact were murder victims.

The two have been released on bail pending a hearing with Canadian immigration officials.
