I wouldn’t normally post footage of a street fight on my blog. That is, until BT viewer Tamara Stecyk passed along this hilarious take on rival business owners going toe to toe.

Local talent Moniquea Marion wrote, produced and stars in The Lemonade Stand. She recruited NAIT alumnus Mark Sereda to shoot and edit the digital short featuring some of Edmonton’s youngest comedic actors. The entry is one of several vying for top prize at www.atom.com, which includes a chunk of change and a shot at air time on Comedy Central!

Check out The Lemonade Stand below and take a minute to vote for this charming Edmonton entry (click here, register and hit “like”)!

OK Kids - let's GO!

OK Kids - let's GO!

When Robert sent this in, I wrote him back and warned him that the “awww factor” would be pretty high!    A family of 6 under the watchful eye of father and mother goose.    Robert and his wife went out for a drive hoping to take some pictures of wildlife.    They were at Elk Island earlier this month at about 7pm.    He adds:  “I hope everyone enjoys the picture as much as I do!”.    DO you?    Let us know!

DID YOU KNOW?    Elk Island National Park is a GREAT place for star gazing.    It was recently designated as part of a dark sky preserve.    The Beaver Hills Preserve is a 300 square kilometres, including Elk Island National Park and the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.    If you would like to find out more about sky watching groups, head to this website:    http://www.edmontonoutdoorclub.com

Terrific - Tolfield

Terrific - Tofield

So I says to myself:  “Self, I have to get to Tofield soon”.    Above is just one of the reasons why!    Tammy – a Tofieldian, or would it be a Tofielder (???) – is proud of her town and writes:  “This is the sunset from our deck”.    Must be nice – I ask.    “It is”, she answers.   :)      Not sure if you know or not but Tofield is close to the awe inspiring Beaverhill Lake.    It is a federally recognized bird sanctuary and provides feeding and resting habitat for more than 50,000 shorebirds each year.

DID YOU KNOW?    The Tofield area was originally home to our First Nations People.    In fact, in 1860 Chief Ketchamoot helped the local Crees against their traditional Blackfoot enemies.    He is buried on the bank of the Ketchamoot Creek.    In 1880, fur traders with the Hudson’s Bay started to move into the area.    The outpost became a town in 1909, named for its first physician, Dr. J. H. Tofield.

YOU ARE INVITED TO TOFIELD — HERE IS SOME STUFF YOU COULD DO!
August:

2nd –  Heritage Day — Lion’s Club Heritage Classic Show & Shine
13th-  Farmer’s Market (Foundation Supper)
21st -  Solo Club Dance Joyce
21st & 22nd – Tofield Miniature Aircraft Display and Funfly (FREE)
27th – Farmer’s Market
30th - First day of School  (((eeeek )))

BacheloretteLogo_print

Put a bunch of guy’s guys in a room and it’s bound to happen – a bunch of overflowing emotion and relationship talk spiced up with tidbits of gossip.

Okay, maybe not. But that’s what we saw Monday night on The Bachelorette as all of the ousted hopefuls gathered to dish some dirt and in some cases (Kasey) salvage some semblance of dignity.

Following the show, Captain Obvious called with these observations: Kirk is the odds-on favourite to be the next Bachelor (assuming Chris L doesn’t take the honours), Craig the lawyer seems to be less of a jerk than he was first portrayed to be on the show, The Weatherman is still a clown, Justin the Wrestler is even more despised by the fellas than we thought…and we’ll be able to overdose on some of these singles in just a couple of weeks when The Bachelor Pad airs on Citytv.

Check out our panel’s thoughts via the video link below. Don’t miss Meredith, Aubrey and Trevor’s final appearance next Tuesday at 8:10 following our BT Bachelorette finale party at Milestone’s. Congratulations to all the viewers who won their way in!

Dolberg Lake, ahhhh

Dolberg Lake, ahhhh

Paul loves to fish.    Lucky for us he is also passionate about sharing his Fresh Air Photos!    He writes:  “I guess you could call me a fishaholic.   I have been a mobile weather watcher since the tornado of ‘87″ — The storm was just starting to move in.    Great to have you with your eyes to the sky Paul.    Next time – send us a fish photo or 2!

DID YOU KNOW?    Dolberg Lake has a quick drop off which is great for float tubers.    To get there, head 17.5k  west of Barrhead on highway 18, then 3km north and about 24 km west.    In 2008, it was stocked with 18 thousand Rainbow Trout.

WE ARE NOT FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS – BUT WE ARE THROWING OUT A LINE OR TWO.    THE FIRST LINE IS ABOUT YOU BECOMING OUR FRESH AIR PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE DAY.    TAKE THE BAIT WOULDYA — AND UPLOAD YOUR PHOTO TODAY!

Alright LADIES listen up!

Alright LADIES listen up!

… Somebody is getting an earful!   That somebody is Murray, a licensed bander of birds:  “We were banding all raptors south east of Hanna.   These are female ferruginous hawks and are very large nestlings(birds not yet ready to leave their nest).    It is really different that this species nestlings will not RUN AWAY when placed on the ground.   We knew these nestlings were all females as their feet were humungous.   We had larger bands for them.

DID YOU KNOW?    According to an Alberta Wildlife Status Report in 2006, ferruginous hawks were listed as a Species of Special Concern in Canada and considered a Threatened Species under Alberta’s Wildlife Act.    Their survival depends on the preservation of large tracts of natural grasslands.    Hurting their chances of survival are:  cultivation and fire suppression, food availability, and human disturbance.    The common name of the Ferruginous Hawk means “rusty colour” and refers to the colour of the feathers on their wings and legs.

Eerie ending and “The View” II?

The late Simon Monjack and wife Brittany Murphy.

The late Simon Monjack and wife Brittany Murphy.

This is just eerie. We’ve learned film director Simon Monjack, actress Brittany Murphy’s husband, died the same way she did five months earlier.

The L.A. County Coroner has announced that the cause of death for Monjack was acute pneumonia and severe anemia.

Brittany also died of pneumonia and anemia as well as multiple drug intoxication.

The coroner found prescription medications in Simon’s blood stream too, thought there wasn’t enough to be lethal.

Strange, but true.

The six ladies to host CBS' new, all-ladies talk show.

The six ladies to host CBS' new, all-ladies talk show.

After 13 years on the air, the daytime talk show “The View” now has some competition.

CBS is churning out its own all-ladies talk show to fill the void left by longtime soap opera “As the World Turns”.

The hosts include: Sara Gilbert (you’ll remember her as Darlene from Roseanne), Julie Chen (you know- the Big Brother host), Susan Osbourne (that’s exciting in itself), actress Holly Robinson Peete, actress Leah Remini (King of Queens), and Broadway’s Marisa Jaret Winokur.

Betty White's clothing line goes on sale in August.

Betty White's clothing line goes on sale in August.

At 88-years-old, Betty White is unstoppable. Really. She’s now putting out her own clothing line.

The t-shirts and hoodies bear slogans such as “Long live the queen” and “White heat”.

They’ll hit stores in August at prices between $28 to $48.

And on top of that, part of the proceeds will go to the Morris Animal Foundation.

The resurgence of Betty White continues! But would it have if not for the Facebook page soliciting she host SNL a few months back?

Martyn Lenoble and Christina Applegate.

Martyn Lenoble and Christina Applegate.

Wednesday we hear actress Ali Larter is pregnant, today Christina Applegate joins the list of moms-to-be.

She and her fiance Martyn Lenoble, 41, a dutch bass player, are expecting their first child together.

The 38-year-old “Married with Children” and “Samantho Who?” star dated Lenoble for two years before they got engaged on Valentine’s Day.

Great news for Applegate. She recovered from a double mastectomy a few years back and has been cancer-free since 2008.
