Oh Canada !

Oh Canada !

Meet Fresh Air Photographer Bryce.    He shows his patriotic side when he shoots and says:  ”I like the pictures of exotic places but you can’t beat waking up to the Canadian flag and Canadian Geese!”.    AGREED Bryce!    The gentle flapping of the flag goes perfectly with the wing flapping of those goose on the loose.

DID YOU KNOW?    At the top of any & all flag poles you will see a decorative ornament.    That ornament could be a ball, a spear, a maple leaf, or emblem of some kind.    Whatever it is – the official name of that ornament is a FINIAL.    Here’s a great website that gives you some DOs and DON’Ts  about our pretty flag and what you can do on National Flag Day of Canada — February 15th.   http://www.pch.gc.ca/special/jdn-nfd/index-eng.cfm

DOES THIS PICTURE MAKE YOU THINK OF SOMETHING PATRIOTIC?    PERHAPS IT MAKES YOU THINK OF A TRIP YOU TOOK ‘OUT OF THE COUNTRY’.    SALUTE MOTHER NATURE OR HER CREATURES AND SHARE IT WITH US!

Glum Plum

Glum Plum

Haley, and maybe YOU – watched helplessly as the snow fell and buried the early buds.    Haley writes:   ”This is the prettiest our Double Flowering Plum will get this year”, adding:  the blossoms were frozen in their tracks.    You have our sympathy!

DID YOU KNOW?    Most gardeners try to think positive and say:  Snow is rain in disguise.    As the snow melts, it seeps slowly and evenly into the soil — good for seeds, not so good for the plants.    That’s because the flurries and cold usually come as a package deal.

WINTER SPRING SUMMER OR FALL  – SEND IN YOUR PICTURES WE ACCEPT THEM ALL.    UPLOAD YOUR FRESH AIR PHOTO TODAY, SEE IT ON BT TOMORROW!

Hey Suzy!

Hey Suzy!

Hey Suzy.    Well, to be literal AND correct – you are looking at Black-eyed Susans.    And if one can be even “more” literal, the flowers are divine:  Black-eyed Susan on the vine.    Thank you to Roxanne for sending this in – although we are not privy to the colour of “her” eyes.    When the Black-eyed Susan vine is in its happy place, it will grow quickly and show off many pretty open-faced flowers with dark centers (hence: “black-eyed Susan”).

DID YOU KNOW?    The plant originates, or gets its roots(heehee) from the tropics of Madagascar.    But treat her right and she’ll bloom nice and bright.    She likes warm/moist yet well-drained soil, full exposure to the sun throughout the day, and partial shade in the afternoon(don’t we all?).    And as the name “vine” suggests, she like to have the something to climb.

TAKE ONLY PICTURES — LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS.    WE THANK OUR FRESH AIR PHOTOGRAPHERS FOR FOLLOWING THAT GOLDEN RULE, AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO THE SAME.    UPLOAD YOUR PHOTO TODAY–SEE IT ON BT TOMORROW!

Just visiting thanks!

Just visiting thanks!

Here’s Natasha showing off her great sense of humour — and a great sense of artistry!    The bikini on the Mrs. is priceless.    As great as it was having the Snowman family in the neighbourhood, Natasha is happy to report that they have moved “on” …  sure to come back when timing is a little better than — MAY!

DID YOU KNOW?    The best snow for making a snowman is when it is a-l-m-o-s-t at its melting point and is moist and compact.    Have you ever started to roll the snow and picked up grass along the way??
That powdery snow (although a dream come true for skiers), is not good for the production of a snowman because it will not stick to itself.    And if the temperature drops, it will form a crust that completely ruins the entire masterpiece!

HURRY!   BEFORE THEY DISAPPEAR - CAPTURE A CREATURE ON CAMERA.    FRESH AIR PHOTOS AIR EVERY MORNING ON BT AND AS YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, RIGHT HERE ON THIS WORLD WIDE BLOG.    SNAP AND SEND TODAY!

Doe a deer a female deer

Doe a deer a female deer

Hey  Shyla, we love how you were able to get mom and her baby to pose for you!    Here we see a mule deer mom and her fawn with their big ears perked up and alert.    A Mule deer’s hearing is INCREDIBLE!    When a mule deer hears a sound it will immediately face the sound, direct his/her ears towards it and try and locate the potential threat.    And their sense of smell?    SENSATIONAL!    They can detect the slightest of odors up to several hundred yards away.

DID YOU KNOW?    A fawn is born with spots for its own protection.    Its spotted coat looks like patches of sunlight falling on the forest floor.

BE A DEAR WON’T YOU AND SEND US A PICTURE OF MOTHER NATURE OR HER CREATURES.    ON OUR MAIN WEBPAGE YOU WILL SEE “CONNECT WITH BT”.    THEN YOU WILL SEE ”SEND US YOUR PHOTOS”.    UPLOAD YOUR PIC TODAY – SEE IT ON BT TOMORROW!

Need a chuckle? Here is a BOAT LOAD of laughs – check it out!

First of all, let me say no one was harmed in the making of these prat falls. And second, it may not be polite to laugh at other people…but in this case, can we make an exception???

Bluebird bliss

Bluebird bliss

Murray was starting to wonder where they were – these beautiful bright Mountain Bluebirds!    They were late this year.    In fact, Murray tells me that two weeks ago near Ponoka–not a feathered friend to be seen.    And now, more than a dozen pair.    Maybe they were making sure he had the nest boxes all ready for them!

DID YOU KNOW?    Mountain bluebirds spend their winter in the southern states.    So when they arrive - they are thankful when they see the nest boxes,..and we humans are thankful too!    Such pretty birds to have so close.    In the wild, they nest in woodpecker holes, holes in clay banks, and other natural cavities.

TAKE YOUR CAMERA AND AIM HIGH … OR LOW.    EACH MORNING AT 7:10 WE AIR OUR FRESH AIR PHOTO OF THE DAY SENT IN BY … “YOU”.    LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING IT!
