Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron

I am always struck by the beauty of this bird, and how it has perfected its camoflage defense.    Simon was in Orlando’s Gatorland where the Great Blue Herons live and breed along the main lake in the marsh.    The heron keeps its neck in that “S” shape even when flying.

DID YOU KNOW?    Great Blue Herons are Canada’s most widespread heron, from the Maritimes to British Columbia.    They stand perfectly still in the water until a tasty morsel passes by.    When they see something — wham!    The heron lunges with its body and neck – usually swallowing in one gulp.    Like a lot of humans, most head south once water begins to freeze — flying to Mexico or Cuba … AGAIN, like a lot of humans.

AND SO ‘HUMAN” – IF YOU TOOK ANY PHOTOS WHEN YOU TOOK THAT TRIP:  DURING TAKE OFF – IN FLIGHT – OR DESTINATION,….WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM.    UPLOAD YOURS TODAY!

Pat shows us Maligne Canyon BEFORE and AFTER.    -She also shows us her sense of humour.    I received the picture of the thundering waterfall first.    I fired her an email mentioning good thing she didn’t lean over too far & fall in.    Response:  “no chance of falling in, the railing is too high & I am too short“.     :)     Next, she sends me the picture of the snow covered waterfall with the explanation that when she started the hike it was winter … but it took her so long to complete the tour, spring had sprung when she finished!    No worries Pat – you probably would have passed me along the way!

Maligne Canyon #2

DID YOU KNOW?    Maligne Canyon is just minutes from downtown Jasper.    There are 6 bridges along the tour – open year round.    Plan for about 1 hour one way.    Please make sure you wear shoes with treads.    Much of the walk is on rather smooth rock that, in summer, wet or dry, can be a little slippery.    & In winter it very very slippery.

IT MAY HAVE BEEN A WALK AROUND THE BLOCK — OR A HIKE TO HIGH GROUND.    SURE HOPE YOU TOOK SOME PICS.    WE OF THE FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION NEED YOU(and your photo).    UPLOAD YOURS TODAY AND SEE IT ON BT TOMORROW!

Hello internet! Are you sick of March yet? I cannot wait for summer time. Last summer the soundtrack to my life contained alot of Animal Collective, more specifically the album Merriweater Post Pavillion. It is fantastic of course, Animal Collective is forever one-upping themselves. Here is a cool and festive video for a song with a summer flava.

Morning Moose!

Morning Moose!

The blue hues are so spectacular!    A new day dawing creates a perfect silhouette of a moose in northern Alberta.    Jerry takes us on a bit of a hunting trip – hunting for that perfect Fresh Air Photo.    In his words:  “I photographed him all week chowing down in an alfalfa field.    This guy had no clue I was there and wandered back and forth nibbling on new growth willows”.    The daytime temperatures were a balmy -20 C.

DID YOU KNOW?    During the winter moose grow a thicker coat.   They will eat the bark of trees and paw through the snow to get at the grass and twigs under the snow.    In September and October the bulls use their antlers to fight each other to win females.    Then in late fall the bulls’ antlers fall off and new ones grow.

THERE’S THE MOOSE .. WHERE’S SQUIRREL?    MOOSE–SQUIRREL, SUNRISE–SUNSET, LEAVES–FLOWERS!    THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO CAPTURE WITH YOUR TRUSTY KODACHROME.    SENDING US YOUR PHOTO MEANS MEMBERSHIP — TO OUR FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION THAT IS.    UPLOAD YOUR PICTURE TODAY!

Its Friday you deserve a break.

Happy in Hawaii

Happy in Hawaii

So many good things to say about this picture –  the first that comes to mind is:  when do we leave?    Hawaii is where you need to be .. sunset is the time to see.    Giselle and her husband KC were there when we were shivering in the middle of January.    They watched it sink peacefully into the sea as if being tucked in after a hard day’s work.

DID YOU KNOW?    Hawaii’s geography, the humidity, and warmth make the sunsets unique.    The heating process during the day creates a high number of particles in the air, which are able to scatter more light.

NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO SHARE YOUR HOLIDAY PICS WITH US.    OR, THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE OUT AND ABOUT – CAPTURE MOTHER NATURE OR HER CREATURES AND SEND IT IN.
