Christmas Light Hero!

ChristmasVactionHouse

Granted, Clark Griswold didn’t have Guitar Hero to work with when he lit up his Chicago suburb with one of the greatest Christmas light displays of all time. But where was Clark’s Christmas spirit when it came to the workplace? A Yuletide take on one of the world’s most popular video games inspired Kyle and Colin Bryson’s spectacular Christmas Light Hero handiwork. Then, to take the cake, there’s this house. I love the rock star moment at the very end:

And then there’s this guy (on the right)…

Send us proof of your crazy Christmas celebrations – we’ll be featuring them on BT throughout the week!

Merry Christmas from all of us,

Cold Enough for ya?

Cold Enough for ya?

I get a chill just looking at this picture!    Zoltan braved the elements to capture the mighty– the frozen, North Saskatchewan and the mighty–the frozen, city of  Edmonton.    It looks like Zoltan is standing right next to the Edmonton Queen — which of course is also frozen in her tracks .. er in her paddle wheel.   http://www.edmontonqueen.com      We Albertans really suffered through a cold snap.   How cold was it?

Well, on December 13th, records show that Edmonton was the Coldest place ON EARTH.    The weather station at Edmonton International Airport hit  -46.1C(-51F)  at 5am,..PLUS a windchill of  -59C(-74F).

DID YOU KNOW?     You may have heard the phrase misery loves company:   During that same time  High Level was  -40.9 C.     Fort McMurray  -39 C.    Calgary -30 C.    Bragging rights on Tuesday, December 15th went to the hamlet of Vimy as being the  COLDEST PLACE in the country  - 54 C.     All toghether now:   ”O Canada, our home and native land ….  the true north strong and free!

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BRAVE THE ELEMENTS IN ORDER TO SEE YOUR PHOTO ON  THIS WORLD-FAMOUS BLOG.    WE ALSO ACCEPT FRESH AIR PHOTOGRAPHY FROM TROPICAL VACATIONS, LAST SUMMER’S CAMPING TRIP, THE BEST SUNRISE OR SUNSET YOU’VE EVER SEEN.    UPLOAD YOUR PIC TODAY!!!

Yellow Snow

People are always giving advice like:  Don’t fry bacon in the nude.   Never buy a car you can’t push…and at this time of year: “Don’t eat yellow snow”.

September storm

September storm

Shawna watched as the clouds rolled in and the wind started to howl.    Can you see the trees on the right?    They are pushed to their breaking point.    This is at Lake Wabamun-not on a hot summer day-but in early September.    The rolling appearance of the clouds make be think of  shelf  clouds.

DID YOU KNOW?    You will most likely see a shelf cloud on the leading edge of a thunderstorm – it will be attached to the under-belly of that storm.     Shelf clouds are fed and formed by rising warm and moist air.     BUT BEWARE:   whenever you see shelf clouds forming — hang on to your hat and watch for flying objects!     A  very low shelf cloud can be a preview of a violent wind.

We want you to be safe as you capture those magical yet menacing moments with Mother Nature.    So shoot safely!    Your photo gets you a membership in our Fresh Air Photo Nation - Rockstar treatment on BT – and Fame on this very blog.    Upload your picture today!

Fort Chipewyan

Fort Chipewyan

One of the most beautiful communities in Alberta.    This is Fort Chipewyan.     Here’s how Pat describes the scene:   ”The sunset of nature’s Christmas trees on the ice road to Fort Chipewyan at 30 below–good things hide around every corner,  Merry Christmas”.    Back  atchya Pat!    Ft. Chip is Alberta’s oldest continuously settled community.

DID YOU KNOW?   The ice road is legendary.    There are no year-round roads into Fort Chipewyan; except the winter road that exists —usually— from mid-December to mid-March.
It is literally a 510-kilometre ribbon of ice that ties Fort Chipewyan to two other forts.    From Fort McMurray it is 286-kms (about 4 and-a-half hours).    To Fort Smith, just inside the Northwest Territories border, the 224k is about a three-hour drive.

ON YOUR NEXT ROAD TRIP .. THINK OF US.    WE MEMBERS OF THE FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION NEED YOU (AND YOUR PICTURE OF MOTHER NATURE ‘OR’ HER CREATURES).     WATCH FOR YOUR PIC ON BT & ON THIS VERY BLOG.    UPLOAD YOUR PHOTO TODAY!

At Christmas time, there are going to be THOUSANDS of family photos taken and there used to be a time when you didn’t know what kind of photo you had taken or how it was going to look …but these days we can judge almost instantly thanks to digital cameras. You all pose. You smile. You say ‘cheese’. You check. You delete if you don’t like. So, you re-pose. You re-smile. You ‘re-cheese’…and so it goes, until you are satisfied will  a photo that says ‘This is my family at Christmas time!’

Well, I found some hilarious family photo’s  that will sure give you a chuckle and have you feeling a whole lot better about your festive family photo efforts from  www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com. Here’s a sampling…awkward indeed.

They’re the best curlers in Canada. They’re probably the best curlers in the world…but they’ll have to wait until Vancouver in February to prove it.

We asked Kevin Martin, Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert how it felt to win the Canadian championships in Edmonton on Sunday, if they’re over “losing the gold medal” in Salt Lake City in 2002,  and who they’re eyeing up heading to the 2010 Olympic games. Canada’s skip even came up with a new nickaname for one of his biggest rivals. Click on the video below to check it out!

Oh Wow Okotoks

Oh Wow Okotoks

Perry writes:  “My family and I were visiting my sister in Okotoks this past July and we stepped on the deck early in the morning to drink our coffee and there it was”.    Wonderful.    I guess Perry forgot he had this picture.   When he came across it, he knew it was Fresh Air Photo material and sent it in.    And for that Perry, we are extremely thankful!

DID YOU KNOW?    The town’s name is derived from “ohkotok”, the  Blackfoot First Nation word for “rock”,   it is sometimes called ”Rock City”.     The rock refers to the world’s largest known glacial erratic which is situated about 8 km west of the town.

YOU MIGHT HAVE THAT HIDDEN GEM IN YOUR CAMERA THAT IS A FRESH AIR PHOTO WAITING TO HAPPEN!    WE ARE WAITING FOR YOUR PHOTO NOW!!
