Movember 2009 – What a Month!

KARISHAVE

What an incredible month of Movember! The annual furry-lipped fundraiser saw record numbers of Mo Bros (35,000+ across Canada!) growing moustaches to bring funds and awareness to prostate cancer research, record-shattering donations (on pace to flirt with $8M, nearly doubling our goal of $4M!) and unparalleled MOmentum, as more and more Mo Bros and Mo Sistas play a part in changing the face of men’s health!

My month-long Mo grow came to a tidy conclusion on Monday’s BT when my #1 Mo Sista (technically, my Mo Wife) Kari Skelton brandished a blade live on the air alongside Michele McDougall (click on the video below to check it out). We also awarded one lucky viewer (Kelly Ivanc) an incredible week-long getaway at the Residences at Fairmont Ridge. Kelly was one of MANY of you (listed below) who “put your money where my Mo was” and supported the cause. Together, we raised more than $5,000 for Prostate Cancer Canada!

I can’t say “thank you” enough to the following friends of BT who made a donation this Movember: Tanis Javens, Larry Irla, Melsha Shea, Robert Lee, Scott Wood, Dana Hempstock, Brian Mollan, Joe Whitbread, Andrew Walker, Tracy Kennedy, Barb Robinson, Jorge Cabral, Linda Rumpel, Allison Dosman, Carol Petterson, Liz Lepper, Jim Thompson, Nancy Critchley, Nancy Mooney, Kelly Ivanc, Janet Blouin, Charlynn Branton, Dean Taylor, Terry Olsen, Michelle Dechaine, Nancy Rakovszky, Susan Coupal, Jim Olson, Carol Reyda, Sally Greenhill, Ruthann Esligar, Shannon Dupuis, Wendy MacIntosh, Dorota Dunnigan, Amy Fairless, Quinn Phillips, Meredith McLennan, Doug Mertz, Brandon Pilkington, Carol Ann Lyderik, Rhonda Leier, Tina Lysohirka, Deanna Buzinsky, Adrienne Arnott, Leanne Gyonyor, Anne Semeniuk, Susan Schofield, Wendy Serbin, Laurie Keindel, Mike Yaremkowych, Russell Eliuk, Yvonne Stasiw, Dayna Burnell, Gail Post, Mark Kuipers, Connie Gueutal, Hank Happablap, Chantal St. Jean, Cheryl Gelinas, Charles Dennis, Lynn Penner, Judy Vincent, Cory Cremer, Cindy Derpack, Cory Morgan, Erin Nielson, Leandra Brezinski, Sharon Smith, Kelly Berube, James Kalynuk, Jeanette Willman, Tyler Ashford, Heather Hansen, Melanie Hammermeister, Donna Bala, Helen Rawa, Janice Borchardt, Crystal Majeski, Roxanne Bilawchuk, Tim Lozinik, Carol Stenson and Kate Gallagher.

Now, here’s to 11 months with a “slick upper lip!”

Movember will come to a clean conclusion on Monday’s BT. We’ll review Saturday’s Movember gala (we may even meet the 2009 Man of Movember) at 8:10. Then, my moustache will be shorn off by a very special guest at 9:30. That’s also when we’ll be giving away a week for four at the beautiful Residences at Fairmont Ridge, along with four lift tickets to Fairmont Ski Resort, four passes to the Fairmont Hot Springs and a $100 dinner voucher!

If you already donated to Movember via my blog this past Thursday or Friday, you qualify for Monday’s giveaway. If you haven’t yet made your Movember donation, you still have a chance to qualify by making a minimum $25 donation to Movember before 9:30am by clicking here.

You receive one entry in the Fairmont Ridge giveaway for every $25 you donate. You receive five entries for a $100 donation. Together, we’ll help change the face of men’s health by raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Canada. It’s an exciting year for what’s become the biggest men’s health fundraiser in Canada. Nationally, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas will shatter our $4M goal – we’re currently on pace to raise nearly $7M thanks to donors like you!

If you’d like to double your chances of winning a prize, check out this cool photo contest! Good luck, and thanks for becoming part of the Movember movement!

National Addictions Awareness Week has come and gone .. but what a way to celebrate!    The creative geniuses created the NAAWscars.    The call went out for people to create a commercial that promotes an addictions-free lifestyle.    And during the awards show, the winners were showered with praise and congratulations.    Hence:  the NAAWSCARS.      Here are some celeb sightings from the event.

In November – specifically the 11th, we say the phrase “Lest we Forget”.    I will never forget the sacrifices made by our Canadian Forces.    Lena agrees.    She sends us 2 photos of a Remembrance Day service in Edmonton from 2008.    Lena says  the ceremony at the Legislature Grounds is one that a lot of people may not know about.    The ceremony includes a 21-gun salute.    It stirs in her – loyalty, pride, sadness, and a feeling that she is seeing something meaningful.

Thank you Lena.    Thank you troops.    & an honourable mention ‘thank you’ to Sheri at visitor services at the Legislature.    She tells me the cannons are located at the Royal Canadian Artillery Saluting Base on the south west side of the grounds.    It is dedicated to Canadian gunners and is used for military salutes.

DID YOU KNOW?     Gun salutes (21) are the firing of cannons or arms as a (military or naval) honour.    The custom originates in naval tradition, where a warship would fire its cannons harmlessly out to sea, until all ammunition was spent, to show that it was disarmed, signifying the lack of hostile intent.

WE SALUTE YOU – FUTURE MEMBERS OF OUR FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION.    UPLOAD YOUR PICTURE, AND SEE IT ON BREAKFAST TELEVISION AS WELL AS THIS VERY BLOG!
