Shane on a plane. Either he had the window seat, or he made friends in a lean-over. This magical moment in time was captured by Shane while flying to Fort McMurray. You can see the water sparkling in the rising sun — and how that sun is doing its best, to break through the clouds. Hmmm … so THIS is what it looks like when you look out the window at 36 thousand feet! Actually, eventhough I am a Scardey Cat up there, I do like to have the window seat so I can keep my eye on the ground as we fly. (& make sure the ground doesen’t rush towards us too fast if you know what I mean … ).

It’s called The Crossing, and is on highway 93. There’s a hotel/motel, gas pumps, souvenir shop, restaurant/lounge, and enough of a panorama to put a kink in your neck. You’ll see it about halfway between Banff and Jasper. Above is the view from the front deck of the restaurant. I sat and drank in this scenery as I ate my dinner — a buffalo burger I cooked on the in-house BBQ! (one of the many perks)
Spin around, and you see this:
Magnifico
Staff is awesome — management is too. Here are 2 of the great people who agreed to have their picture taken with me. Hey,…in a way – they are tourist attractions! Meet Mike and Dukan. Mike is the General Manager, Dukan is in charge of … well, pretty much everything around The Crossing. The next time you stop in – tell them I said hi!
Thanks to our friends at Head 2 Toe Salon & Spa, Rigoletto’s owner Sergio Turlione and I were able to incorporate a little more rock and roll than usual into our Monday morning cooking segments.
(Can you see why I LOVE working with this guy? Pure entertainment. Click on the video below to watch.)
You may have heard the stories. People who claim they see Jesus in: a chip, a cheesy, even a piece of cheese. Well this sighting is not of a person…but of something that is near and dear to my heart (maybe yours, too). Click away…what do YOU see?
Can you see it?? You are looking for a caterpillar — very very clever caterpillar. It is very hard to find, but it is underneath the leaf that curves to the right. See the red dots? Well, that is no ordinary caterpillar — it will become a Polyphemus Moth … A HUGE moth. We thank Don for snapping and sending in this amazing treasure he found in his Sherwood Park backyard. We also thank Don for attaching a website where we can get more info on that magnificent moth. http://www.cirrusimage.com/polyphemus_moth.htm Below, is the unveiling so to speak.
Monster Moth
The polyphemus moth has a wingspan of 3 and a half to 5 and a half inches! It gets its name from the large eyespots on its hindwings, referring to the polyphemus, the “cyclops” of Greek mythology.
DID YOU KNOW?Wings of both butterflies and moths are covered with scales that overlap like tiles on a roof. Some wings are almost clear because those moths have few scales.
SHAKE OFF THOSE MOTHBALLS, GET OUT THERE AND TAKE A PICTURE OR TWO ! WHEN YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF OUR FRESH AIR PHOTO NATION, TELEVISION AND BLOG FAME – WILL FOLLOW!
For the past month, Ryan and I have gathered bizarre weird off-the-wall news from around the world in a segment that happens everyday at 6:40 AM called SAY WHAT?! Today was particularily amusing (and slightly disturbing!!) so i wanted to post it so that everyone had a chance to catch the truly warped world we live in!!
What a wonderful day we had! it’s not everyday I get the chance to hold a beautiful new baby girl, and play with her pretty and very good older sister, – who for part of our playtime – was dressed like a ballerina. & oh yeah — Wendy and Terran were there too! Enjoy the pictures of one month old Danielle (Daisy) and 2 year old Chole (Coco). Here’s something else I don’t do everyday…but I am doing today. Wendy & Terran: I volunteer to babysit anytime!
Adventure ‘09! Sharmen, Stephanie, and Murray piled in the car and set out for Dawson Creek but ended up in Prince George! Sharmen and Stephanie fell asleep, so while at the wheel, Murray took a wrong turn … or 8. But it became one of their best adventures ever! They saw elk and jaw-dropping beautiful mountains like this one in Jasper National Park. You are looking at Roch Ronde. The great adventurers still get teased by everyone they missed seeing at the family reunion, but Sharmen says that’s part of their family fun!
DID YOU KNOW? Roche Ronde means round in French. It is 2,138 metres tall .. (7,015 feet) and is located in the Athabasca River Valley, directly across the river from Roche Miette.

It’s one of the most attention-grabbing, polarizing issues in Edmonton these days – the fate of Lucy the elephant, a resident of the Valley Zoo for the past 35 years. For years, groups like Zoocheck Canada have implored the Valley Zoo to send Lucy to an elephant sanctuary, criticizing Lucy’s enclosure and a number of health issues. On the other hand, Lucy’s handlers at the zoo have defended her situation, and to their credit, opened their doors to media scrutiny on a regular basis.
Then Bob Barker got involved.
From the moment the broadcasting legend (and long-time animal activist) teamed up with PAWS in the fight to “save Lucy,” Edmonton’s Little Zoo That Could found itself vilified in the international spotlight. As soon as the former host of “The Price Is Right” announced he’d be coming to Edmonton to get a first-hand look at Lucy’s living quarters, our BT email inbox lit up with questions and comments of all sorts.
“Mr. Barker, I have respect for your lifelong work on behalf of animals. I agree with many of your animal rights arguments,” wrote Cheryl Gelinas. “But I respect the decisions of (Lucy’s) local caregivers and their recommendation not to risk her health by moving her from the home that she knows and the companionship that she loves.”
Robert Corness wrote, “The zoo claims it would be dangerous to move Lucy…however the zoo doesn’t acknowledge that her physical and social environment is extremely poor and that Lucy’s chronic health problems are a result of her living conditions.”
“Bob Barker is a great man who loves animals,” wrote Jodi Mazur. “But he also needs to realize that Edmonton is home for Lucy and he needs to look at ways of making her home more comfortable, not on taking her away from her home.”
Sara Johnston wrote, “Bob Barker is using his celebrity to bring more attention to Lucy’s situation. Yes, he’s not from Edmonton and yes, he hasn’t been to see Lucy. But he can read her health reports like everyone else.”
“Why didn’t they think of all this when Lucy first arrived in our city?” asked Dan Roesler. “What about all the other confined, sick animals in zoos and aquariums?”
Tina Danecke wrote, “Other than Bob Barker being an advocate for human rights, what qualifies him to suggest Lucy be moved? I love animals, but in no way does that give me the expertise to have an educated opinion.”
We were pleased to welcome Bob Barker to BT in an exclusive interview leading up to his press conference at the Matrix Hotel. Click on the video link below if you missed it!
