Here it is for all of you who have been asking me, the one and only HOLZKOPF taped from a live performance on BT!

What a crazy weekend past. It started on Thursday when I hopped in a van with Holzkopf, Zebra Pulse, Eamon McGrath, and Rick Ried of the City Streets. Also joining us was Trevor of Gold Rush, Slow Beef, and Italian Husbands (a side project with Holzkopf). He would man the helm of this ship and take us to Calgary for a night of noise. We played at the Palomino, Eamon Played at Higher Ground.

The sound guy at the Palomino was very generous with volumes in the place. Man oh man what a sound system! I have never heard noise that crisp.. hahaha, funny but true. They sure know how to treat bands too, free meals and a couple drinks made the trip down (7 people in the van) worth it. Once it got dark and the music got loud and show goers showed up. The music Kicked off with a metal band (bass and drums) that sung of black metal wheelchairs.

Zebra Pulse Followed performing their first out of town show. It was quite successful and all 8 of the hand made albums that were finished minutes before the show were snatched up.

Holzkopf Performed the finishing move on the night with a blistering hot set. Ending with a collab with partner in crime Trevor. This they lovingly call the Italian Husbands.

Unfortunately i missed Eamon show.

The next night Holzkopf and Zebra Pulse were joined by The Barnyard Curlies, Corvid Lorax, Swwords, and Deep freeze at the Hydeaway. The Purpose of this show i assume was to try and drown out the GZA show at the Star-lite Lounge. Another very successful show!

BT was lucky enough to have Micheal Rault and the Mixed Signals help us to get outta bed.

Fool me once George Bush!

posted on March 30th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

You probably have heard or even  seen this before.   The former President of the good ole U-S of A will never live this one down:

“There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.” —President George W. Bush, Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002

I always thought “you can’t get fooled again” – was a little closer to the lyrics of a song from the rock group The Who,…NOT the Chinese proverb:  Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you”.

All this foolin’ around I’m doing — is in reference to a fun-filled day of hoaxes, practical jokes, and sending the innocent on fool’s errands.

There have been some good tricks played “on the unsuspecting” by media outlets – even large corporations over the years.  They are ideas that have to be planned and executed perfectly.  One year, Burger King announced it was sellling burgers for lefties.  The condiments were designed to drip out of the right side.  Now that’s innocent and creative trickery I support!   As the day approaches, here are just a few songs that have the word “fool” in either the title – or lyrics.  Maybe you’ll hear a few on BT on Wednesday morning.  See you then!

The Fool on the Hill – The Beatles
Chain of Fools – Aretha Franklin

What A Fool Believes – Doobie Brothers

Why Do Fools Fall in Love – Frankie Lymon
Everybody Plays The Fool – Main Ingredient

Poor little fool – Ricky Nelson

Diana Ross – Why Do Fool’s Fall In Love

Whatever those crazy number puzzles are called, you no longer have to battle through them alone.

The mathematical formula for solving them has been revealed!

Bye Bye BT!

Wednesday marked my last day on BT for two weeks. When I return from sunny Costa Rica, I’ll officially be a…”husband.” The word still jumps out at me. It’ll take a little getting used to. I’ve never been more excited for something in my life.

I had no idea to expect on Wednesday’s show. Would my departure fly under the radar? Would anybody say anything? “Off camera”, our amazing team doled out handshakes, hugs, cards and sweet sentiments. But what, if anything, would unfold “on camera?”

Turns out I was duped again and again for four straight hours. From fantastic viewer emails to Bridget Ryan’s awesome ambush of my fiancee Kari (check out the video from 96.3 Capital FM posted below) to Reid Wilkins’ hilarious wedding gift to chef Paul Shufelt’s “last bachelor supper” (pictured below) it was a show I’ll never forget!

HUGE thanks to everybody who made it such a special day. Be sure to check my blog regularly – I’ll be in touch from time to time from down south. As for when I return, keep in mind I’ll be married…it’ll no doubt be a more conservative, proper, toned-down Breakfast Television from now on.

(cough cough!)

2 Oil countries meet

2 Oil countries meet

I want to introduce you to 2 new and great friends of Breakfast Television!  Meet Rebecca Spera and Reggie Sadberry.  You will no doubt notice that Reggie has a camera.  I noticed it myself when I saw these two at the Calgary Airport a few weeks ago.  So I says to me-self:  ”Self, you must find out who these people are, where they are from, and why they are toting a tv camera around”.  Turns out they were on their way back home to Houston, Texas and to their morning show:  Great Day Houston.   Rebecca and Reggie were in Banff, Sunshine, and Lake Louise shooting segments in conjunction with Travel Alberta.  Their viewers were given the chance to win an amazing trip for 2, worth 7 thousand dollars!!  Rebecca and Reggie have also been to Edmonton, and gave all of us a glowing report about beautiful northern Alberta (Naturally!).  If you like to surf, and want to see some of R & R’s stories — go to either of these links below:  Click Video Library, Choose a Video Selection, Travel & Leisure, and look for “Alberta”.  Thanks for making BT a great day, Houston!

I don’t know about you guys, but it never really hits me that another year has past until a couple days after my birthday.

wow.

I have just created a flickr account to upload pictures of shows and stuff. It has a pretty cool slide show feature to look at the shots.

There you will find photos from my blog plus more! ooooh. The photos i have uploaded so far date back to the spring of 2008. That is when i really began documenting some of the Edmonton’s music scene.

Here is something that would be great to listen to as you gaze upon this noisy city’s inhabitants and their shenanigans. http://www.archive.org/details/RamshackleDayParade.

It is almost St. Patrick’s day! Last year I was lucky enough to go to a garage party and watch Micheal Rault. He played next to a very large wall of stacked beer boxes, a very pleasant patchwork of colour for a background. Much dust was kicked up by our dancing shoes. Check out his new music video!
